Two Merriweather (The Pearson Building across from Cured/18th & 21st) is now fully leased. F45 Training is now open and a dental office has leased the spot next door.
F45 opened on August 15 and their bootcamp style classes are now taking place twice daily inside their 2,600 sqft space. I wrote about the boutique fitness bonanza set for Downtown Columbia in a pre-Covid Febuary article. F45 is a high-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.) studio that was founded in Australia and has Mark Walhberg as a minority owner. According to a Vox.com profile, it’s the most popular workout you’ve never heard of; as the fast-growing franchise currently has 1,500 locations in 40 countries!
I've been following the progress and posting pictures of the build out here on recent bikeabout Facebook posts, so it's exciting to learn that they are finally open, though there certainly will be challenges starting a new fitness studio while a highly infectious respiratory virus is upending daily routines. F45 soft-opened on August 15 and their Facebook profile is regularly posting to hype their workouts, offer new membership discounts, and explain their safety precautions. I wish them luck and look forward to trying their classes for myself at some point in the future!
Just to the right of F45 is a larger retail space that is set to become a dental office home to Maryland Prosthodontic Associates, which has an existing location in Towson. I discovered the identity of the tenant by reading the construction permit posted on their window. Now, Howard Hughes also has them listed on the vendor page of the Merriweather District website, where they are described as:
Maryland Prosthodontic Associates, you can count on receiving high quality, comprehensive dental care in a modern and friendly environment. You and your family can receive the highest level of treatment, including preventative, cosmetic dentistry, full mouth reconstruction, prosthodontics, emergency and sedation dentistry.
While cosmetic dentistry may not elicit the same level of excitement as other tenant news; there is over 1.6 million square feet of new retail planned for in the Downtown Columbia Masterplan, so not every tenant announcement can be as exciting as The Charmery or Nothing Bundt Cakes. Though come to think of it, perhaps a convenient dental office might not be so bad after all.
