Let there be BBQ!!! Mighty Quinn's Barbeque to join Merriweather District

Add another name to the list of restaurant's coming soon to Downtown Columbia! Mighty Quinn's Barbeque will open their first Maryland location in the Merriweather District according to a report by Nation's Restaurant News.

Mighty Quinn is a fast-casual counter-service "slow smoked authentic BBQ restaurant influenced by all the great styles of BBQ but with a style that is Born in NYC".

Our barbeque is familiar and still unlike any barbeque you have ever had. We pay homage to the many great pit masters who have gone before us and put our own kiss on every meal we serve. The approach is simple: source the best quality ingredients we can and donʼt fuss with them too much. We cook our barbeque the old school way with plenty of wood and time, adding just the right amount of salt and spice to let that lovely marriage of process and product evolve into something transcendent.

Mighty Quinn originated in 2011 as a mobile smoker hitched to the pickup truck of co-founder and pitmaster Hugh Mangum serving markets in Brooklyn. The first brick-and-mortar location opened in Manhattan's East Village in 2012, and the franchise currently has 9 locations in the NY/NJ metro area, including outputs at Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden. The Columbia location (already listed as coming soon on the locations page of Mighty Quinn's website) will be 19th location and first in Maryland. It will be the initial Mighty Quinn's restaurant by franchisee Sasha Gatling who has agreed to open multiple locations . Mighty Quinn aims to be the "Shake Shack of slow-cooked meats" with expansion plans across the east cost.

The menu features a variety of BBQ classics, such as brisket, burnt ends, ribs, pulled pork, chicken, wings, and sausage; served as platters or sandwiches. Sides include mac & cheese, baked beans, corn fritters, broccoli salad, brussel sprouts, fries, corn beard, and slaw. Beer is on tap.

My best guess is that Mighty Quinn will be located in the SW corner of Juniper in the 3,063 sqft location that is labeled as "leased" in the site plan.

Mighty Quinn's joins the list of restaurants that are already open or will be coming soon to Merriweather District.

Open Now:

  • Clove & Cardamom: Indian/Global Cuisine

  • Dok Khao: Thai

  • Busboy & Poets: American

  • Charmery: Ice Cream

Coming Soon:

Also open now is YogaSix and Amanda Gallagher Orthodontics.

Concepts that are missing are coffee, pizza, sushi, salads/sandwiches, coffee, beer/brewery, a wine bar, nightlife, and coffee. Yes, I listed coffee three times on purpose. Caffeine is needed to keep up with all these announcements!

Juniper retail space is rapidly filling up; approximately 75% of space in Juniper is now accounted for. There are just 6 retail spaces remaining. Plus, there is an additional ~12,000 square feet of retail in 6100 Merriweather and ~32,000 sqft in Marlow.

Thanks so much for these updates! Might I also add that an indoor spin and/or Pilates studio is a missing concept that I think others in Columbia would appreciate! :)

Oh that is exciting! Hopefully it remains reserved for a fitness concept. Totally agree with you on the coffee! Columbia needs more than just Dunkin and Starbucks. Would love to see some of the local Baltimore coffee shops make their way to merriweather.

Appreciate the constant updates. Downtown Columbia is becoming a truly exciting place for food, services, and "hang out outdoor" areas. Walk and bike thru their weekly, and love the new feel to a place we moved 40 years ago!! No regrets for nada (courtesy Edith Piaf)
