Fast-Casual vegan PLNT Burger now open inside Whole Foods in Columbia

With little fanfare, new vegan PLNT Burger opened inside the Whole Foods in Columbia in late July. PLNT Burger is a fast-casual restaurant concept with a menu designed by Chef Spike Mendelsohn that is redefining some of America’s favorite foods. The restaurant has been opening locations inside Whole Foods throughout the DMV since last year. The Washington Post article about the location that opened in the Silver Spring Whole Foods likens the food to West Coast cult favorite In-and-Out Burger, minus the beef.

Their website description states "With a focus on juicy, indulgent burgers, soft-serve, savory snacks and seasonal salads, the misson of PLNT Burger is to give people the ability to 'Eat the Change' with delicious foods they love and crave. PLNT Burger offerings are free of any animal products, without compromising flavor or experience.

The menu includes burgers with BEYOND MEAT patties, cheeseburgers that use FOLLOW YOUR HEART vegan cheese, chili made with BEYOND MEAT ground beef, "links" that use BEYOND MEAT sausages, and crispy vegan CHIK N funguy sandwiches. Additionally, salads, fries (herb-based regular and sweet potato fries), and Oat-milk based soft serve "ice-cream" are available (though, soft-serve has been temporarily removed from the menu given coronavirus concerns).

Celebrity-chef Spike Mendelsohn best known for his appearance in the 2008-2009 season of Top Chef chef, also operates beef-burger joint Good Stuff Eatery and We-the-Pizza in Washington DC.

Pickup and Delivery is available via PLNT Burger's website between 11 AM and 9 PM daily., in addition to in-person orders.
